Abstract

The degradation of substance P (an undecapeptide with the following structure: Arg-Pro-Lys-Pro-Gln-Gln-Phe-Phe-Gly-Leu-Met-NH2) by the post-proline cleaving enzyme (EC 3.4.21.-) was investigated. The peptide bond between proline and glutamine in positions 4 and 5 of substance P was hydrolyzed in the presence of the enzyme. The tetrapeptide Z-Gly-Pro-Leu-Gly-NH2 was synthesized and used for determining the enzyme activity during the purification procedure.
