Derivatives of 6-amino-6-N,N-bis(carboxymethyl)-6-deoxy-D-galactose

Abstract

On reaction of 6-amino-6-deoxy-1,2;3,4-di-O-isopropylidene-α-D-galactopyranose (II) with sodium chloracetate 6-amino-6-N,N-bis(carboxymethyl)-6-deoxy-1,2;3,4-di-O-isopropylidene-α-D-galactopyranose (III) was obtained. Melting of compound III with urea or its heating with a mixture of formamide and urea causes cyclocondensation of the N,N-bis(carboxymethyl)group under formation of 6-deoxy-1,2;3,4-di-O-isopropylidene-6-C(3,5-dioxopiperazin-1-yl)-α-D-galactopyranose (IX). Some derivatives of compound III are also described in the paper; the structures of all the products have been confirmed by NMR spectra.
