Abstract
2-Furfurylidenemalonaldehyde (II) reacts with primary aromatic amines as an organic Lewis acid, affording 1,3-di-(N-4-X-phenylamino)-3-(2-furyl)-2-formyl-1-propenes (IIIa-IIIj). Condensation of these compounds with 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxane-4,6-dione (I) gives the products IVa-IVj.
